When owner Andy Gmeiner was looking for a place to expand his already popular restaurant, Royal Bavaria, he found the perfect location in the original, yet dilapidated TG & Y building. After completely gutting and renovating the building, Das Boot Camp opened in Oct. 2012. At the corner of Main St. and Crawford Ave. in downtown Norman, Okla. is a local favorite, Das Boot Camp German Restaurant and Bar.
Brent, a waiter working at Das Boot, reported a local favorite dish is the Jägerschnitzel, a hand breaded pork loin, fried to perfection covered in their famous bacon – mushroom gravy.
Jägerschnitzel- Das Boot Camp Restaurant and Bar
A frequent diner, Paul recently traveled to Germany with his wife, Brenda. Paul felt the food at Das Boot was delicious, but not as good as authentic German food. He compared the taste to that of Tex-Mex, as if the chef had changed a few of the ingredients to make the dishes more American, but with a German flare.
I enjoyed my experience at Das Boot Camp. The Jägerschnitzel was delicious. I give a two thumbs up. – Ashley Gibson
German food has always been a mystery to me. This was my first time to try Jägerschnitzel and it was very tasty! – Darla Wright
